Unexpected

I thought we were quite lucky at Albertsons today. We had a trip planned for a couple things and unfortunately they were out of some of the deals we wanted.

I was wandering down the isles and something caught my attention. Stayfree (just a specific product by them) was on clearance for .94. I checked and I had coupons for $2/2!! So I grabbed the 16 they had left (just enough coupons to cover it). They were all free. The cashier didn't allow the overage that we would've got. Stayfree is not my favorite brand but when it's free, I can handle it!

The only other deal I was able to get today was potatoes and dessert. They were each $1 wyb 10. I used coupons, doubled them.

Total OOP: $2.90
Total Savings: $80.64

It actually should've been .50 cheaper but the cashier forgot to double one of the coupons. I would've said something but she was all flustered by the Stayfree deal and I didn't want to confuse her more. Plus the customers behind us were looking very antsy. So I can handle it costing $2.90 instead of $2.40. I love deals like this, they're so satisfying (if that make sense). I love couponing! :-)

Great job Becca! Gotta love close to free. There is something about leaving Albies with such great deals.

Hi Teresa, it has taken me a bit to finally post. I have a question for you or Becca. How do you coupon double? I keep hearing about about it but I am not sure what its all about. Also, will they take expired coupons? Is there some type of rule?

Here in Oregon (and possibly other places) there are certain stores (Safeway and Thriftway here)that have doublers in their weekly ad. It's a separate coupon that allows 4 items to be doubled up to .50. Since Albertsons matches prices/coupons, they accept these doublers so I can double up to 4 items that I use a MFC with.

However, that's not what most people are talking about when they talk about "doubling", that's just how it works around here. As for regular doubling, some stores (like Albertsons, Tom Thumb/Safeway and others) have specific items that when you purchase them using a coupon, it will double or triple the value of the coupon. It does this automatically and there is a limit on how many of a specific item you can do it with per transaction (the limit varies per store). Some stores advertise what item(s) can be doubled or tripled or you can find the info on coupon blogs.

I've unintentionally used expired coupons at the Albertsons here and it's worked fine. I don't know if they would've allowed it had they noticed it was expired. Typically stores vary on what they'll allow.

You can always call your local stores and ask them questions about their coupon policies like if they double, if they accept expired coupons, do they allow overage, etc.

I hope that helps. Let me/us know if you have any more questions.

Becca kind of already explained it all... We don't have any coupon doublers like she has (an actual coupon that you use to double stuff). We have stores, like Kroger, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, that will automatically double or triple coupons. They have it advertised on the front of their store with big banners saying they double/triple.

Just recently I did a VIVA papertowel deal. They were on sale for $5.99 per six pack, making them about $1 per roll, which is a great price all by itself. I had several $0.35 coupons. I was at Kroger and they will triple any coupon up to $0.39 (double up to $0.50). So, that coupon was really worth $1.05. So, I used one coupon per six-pack and it took $1.05 off, making it cost $4.94. The computer automatically will double/triple.

Kroger also has a rule that I can only use three coupons for "like" items (meaning three VIVA papertowel coupons on three things of papertowels). Once I do three, then they will no longer double/triple the coupon. If I want to buy more than three of one thing, I do them in separate transactions. One of my sisters lives right by me, and she wanted three packages of the VIVA papertwoels as well. I had enough coupons to include her, so I bought a total of six VIVA paper towels. I did them in two transactions so that all the coupons tripled.

Kroger will let you do three "like" items before they stop doubling/tripling. Albertsons will let us do four. Tom Thumb will only let us do one. But it is specific per store, meaning another Albertsons or Tom Thumb or Kroger might let us do more or less. It does work to call and ask them.

If you're curious about stores in your area, just give them a call and ask them if they double/triple coupons. If they do, how many things can you buy of like items that will double and triple.

Hope that made sense!
