Yesterday we went shopping at CVS again. It was a new week with new deals for Ani to practice some of her shopping skills on. She left today, so I don't have her actual receipts, but I remember pretty well how much everything cost...

This one was a little frustrating. When we first went up to pay for it, the cashier lady could only get one of the Nivea coupons to work. We canceled the transaction, thinking maybe if we grabbed some other Nivea products, it would work better. So, we grabbed some face wash for $2.59. We went back and she still couldn't get the coupons to work. I showed her that the coupon does match the purchase we are getting and asked her if there was any way to make the coupons work. She did it in a split second...which then made us wonder why she didn't do that the first time around! It would've saved a bit of time and made the people who were in line behind us be less annoyed. She wasn't a very friendly cashier.
Then after all the coupons were given and everything, she told us that the total was over $13. It should've been more like $7. After some questions, we found out that the face wash that we had grabbed was actually $6 each, not $2.59 like it said on the shelf. They had the face wash all in a line under a tag saying it was $2.59 instead of $6. We told her that (just in case they wanted to fix it) and she didn't care. She didn't seem at all surprised or like it made any difference to her...which then made us wonder if they had done it on purpose!
So, anyway, we asked her to undo the face washes while Ani ran and got more of the $2.59 shaving gel. She manually put the coupons through again (which she really should have because they very clearly are the right coupons), and finally we were at the right price. Ani paid with her ECB and the girl said that they owed us $0.63 so Ani needed to grab a candy bar to bring the total to a positive number. It made me wonder how new this girl was because Ani can choose to loose that $0.63 if she wanted to (they won't pay you money back if you use an ECB), and I told Ani that and the girl said something that seemed like she was disagreeing with me about that...but I KNOW I am right and she is wrong. You can choose to loose any money you want with the ECB...and sometimes it's worth it if it's just a few cents or something. That way you don't end up paying money.
So, Ani grabbed the little candy thing for $0.79, so $0.16 over what she needed, which means that Ani should have to pay $0.16 now. The girl said that Ani owed her $0.93. How in the world?!! That makes no sense. It should've been maybe $0.16?!! I know it's only $0.93, but it was $0.93 that she shouldn't have been paying. I still don't understand what happened since I forgot to look at the receipt. I suppose it's completely possible that the candy was also mislabeled and it really cost $2 or something instead of $0.79 like it says it was. We're a little suspicious they were purposefully mislabeling their items.
Anyway, I think I was a lot more annoyed than Ani that she had to pay almost $1 for all of that. She should've paid nothing, or just over $0.10. Plus, the cashier girl was being a dork and making things much more difficult than she needed to. I still don't get that. She was all fine and ready to not let our coupons work when she obviously very easily could make them work and it took a split second longer. I'm not sure what her point in being a dork about it was! That's probably why the $0.93 was especially annoying too - the whole thing was annoying!
We decided to go to another CVS because we didn't like this one (the one we didn't like was the McDermott store). Who knew what might have happened with another transaction at this store!!
Anyway, here's the breakdown:
1 Fusion Power Razor, $9.99 each, earn $4 ecb = $9.99
Double Paper, no ECB = $3.00
CVS Bandaids, 1.99 each, earn 1.99 ecb = $1.99
Trident (filler), maybe $1.00? (she needed to bring the total to over $15) = $1.00
Total: $15.98
------
COUPONS
(1) $4 razor = $4 off
(1) $3 off $15 coupon = $3 off
= $7 off
------
New total: $8.98
------
Paid with $9 ECB
Paid less than $0.10 in cash (maybe?! by this point me and the screaming baby were in the van)
-----
Earned $5.99 in ECB
Ani put together her transactions before we left to go shopping. I figured if she could put some of her brain power into it, she would be able to understand the concept much better and be able to continue to do it when she went back home. I checked over what she had written out, helped with a couple things, and then that's when we went shopping. After the transactions, it seemed like she had a MUCH better understanding of it and will hopefully be able to continue her CVS shopping!! She thought it was way fun (minus the silly cashier).

Man! That's a frustrating shopping trip. It made me laugh about you being frustrated about the .93 Ani had to pay because I totally understand! It's just funny to see someone else doing it (getting frustrated). I've done that a couple times and I know the employee(s) think I'm crazy since I'm still getting a great deal.
Sounds like Ani is really catching on! I hope all that Nivea for Men stuff helps her take care of all the facial hair!
